Chrysalis, Drake University, and the Drake Student Activists for Gender Equality (SAGE) invite you to a free showing of the startling new documentary
Miss Representation on Tuesday evening, April 17, 2012!

The presentation will be followed by a discussion on the movie, its impact, and its implications facilitated by Professor Laurie Linhart of the Drake University Department of Culture and Society.

In a media-driven society, where cultural norms are often shaped by the media, the prevailing message to all young people is that a woman’s value and power lie in her youth, beauty, and sexuality –not in her capacity as a leader.

Miss Representation exposes how mainstream media contribute to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in America. Written and directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the film challenges the media’s limited — often disparaging — portrayals of women and girls, which may limit women’s ability to feel powerful and to achieve leadership positions.

Miss Representation includes stories from teenage girls and fascinating interviews with politicians, journalists, entertainers, activists, and academics.

The event is free to the public, so invite friends
and join us for an evening you’ll not soon forget!

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

Come to our April 18 meeting and get to know each other better by “Power Networking.” Each person in attendance will be given an opportunity to make a 3 to 5 minute informative presentation to the group about their business and/or what they do.

Please bring your business cards and/or brochures or information about your business to pass out to the group.

To make it a little more fun… we’ll have you answer a fun question that will tell us a little more about you!

Something like…

What was your first real job? Tell us your “3 minutes of fame” story. What was your most embarrassing business moment? What did you think you would be when you grew up – are you doing it now? What’s left on your “bucket list”? Come prepared to share.
